You can control Tello directly via Tello app or with a supported Bluetooth remote controller connected to the Tello app.

Tello can perform eight different flips, fly up and down from your hand in Bounce mode, or automatically record short videos with EZ Shots.

Yes, Tello is safe to fly indoors. Tello can also fly outdoors, but it is only recommended to do so in windless conditions.



Tello’s camera is capable of capturing photos and recording videos. With EZ Shots, users can fly in three specific patterns while recording short videos. Tello’s Camera is 5 Megapixel and records video at a resolution of 720 30fps.

Photos and video will save to your smartphone. You can export files from your smartphone as needed.

No. The Tello does not use an onboard SD card. Photos and Video are stored directly on your device. Currently in Tello Version 1 there is no SD card slot or support.

Tello’s maximum flight range is approximately 100 m, but that range may vary according to your environment.


You can either charge one battery via the Micro USB port on the aircraft or charge multiple batteries simultaneously using an external battery charging hub or dock.

No. If you do so, you may lose the photos or video taken during your last flight. You must power down the Tello and reconnect after each flight.

Updating Firmware

If the update fails, reconnect your Tello to the Tello app and try again. If that fails, you can delete the app from you device and repeat the procedure. It may be helpful to download the latest version of the Tello app before retrying. You can also use 3rd party apps to control the Tello listed HERE.

Officially the Tello 1 is currently compatible with the customized Gamesir T1D and more recently offical support for the Gamesir T1S has been added. However “Unofficially” 3rd Party Apps such as TelloFPV and aTelloPilot enable the use of other controllers like the Parrot FlyPad.

Tello currently supports Scratch programming. More programming platforms will be available in future.

Tello EDU App

No. The Tello app is for experiencing the excitement of flight and aerial photography, while the Tello EDU app is focused on programming. Although both apps are compatible with Tello aircraft, one app should be completely turned off before using the other. Tello should also be restarted between uses.

Although most of the app’s functions are free, the Tello EDU app also has games, which include some levels that require payment.
